REVIEW: A History Of Swear Words, Series 1 Episode One 'F**k'
As with Jeff Goldblum before he got his factual show, I've always thought somebody should give Nicolas Cage his own comedy documentary series. He's one of the biggest extroverts in Hollywood, meaning that any documentary where he is a presenter is bound to really make you laugh. So I was glad when I heard that Netflix had done exactly that, with A History Of Swear Words.
And judging by this first episode, it doesn't disappoint. Nicolas Cage in his pieces to camera is just as eccentric and over the top with his mannerisms as we have all come to expect; it's just a shame we don't get more of it. At only twenty minutes long, the episodes in this series are ridiculously short.
Despite the short runtime, I still had fun watching this first episode though. In some ways it feels like more of an introduction to the series, but it was an interesting insight into the origins of the most famous swear word. I was surprised that Jonah Hill was the most sweary Hollywood actor, and that Wolf of Wall Street contains over a hundred swear words in total. That seems a crazy statistic to me. Also interesting that swearing didn't come to TV until 2004, with South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.
A great first episode overall, and a nice introduction to a fun series.
